For so long, we have been taught that we needed a big idea to start a business. However, that is not the case anymore given the rising popularity of side hustles (see previous post on gig economy). You can use your skills AKA hobbies to generate income for yourself right away. Skip creating the LLC, S, or C corp and paying the never ending business registration fees every year. You now have the ability to instantly make money with your phone or computer; no business registration required. All you need is your unique skillset. What do you do that you would do anyway, even if you don’t get paid a cent? It can be a unique talent or skill such as doing hair, landscaping, photography, creative writing, AI prompting, drawing, etc. We are all multi-dimensional individuals with talents or skills known or unknown. We just have to figure out ways to monetize our skillsets and make our target audience aware. There are now multiple ways to get our unique product or services out in the open such as paid advertising, social media, and word of mouth advertising. Now, more than ever before, it is easier to get eyes on our side hustle/business. Our perfectionism is the only thing that is holding us back. We have to be willing to step outside ourselves and do what makes us uncomfortable. We will not get anywhere doing the same thing over and over again. Do not be afraid to pursue your creative passions. We all need something out of work that brings us joy. Something that is just for us that doesn’t involve us receiving a paycheck or giving away something of ourselves for free. It should not matter how much money you make; consider it disposable income you normally would not have. The most important thing is that it connects you to your passion and offers you self-fulfillment. If you want to learn how to be profitable with your skillset, consider getting connected to a skilled entrepreneur or Mentor. They can help you move from side hustle to business and get you on the right track. They can assist you with mastering your craft and helping you figure the best way to structure your business for your industry. Mentors are folks with lived experience who can assist with avoiding missteps so you can have a clearer, straightforward path to success. We offer access to skillpreneurs through our mobile app, Wite Collar. Simply download our app and you will be instantly matched to a Mentor in your preferred industry/industries. Our app is available on Google Playstore and Apple Appstore. Our app is an open access platform so anyone can join as a Mentor, offering widespread access to Mentorship. We hope that you will join our community to learn how to turn your skillset into profit!

As an entrepreneur starting out, it is understandable that you might struggle with what to spend your money on because your finances are limited. You are probably self-funding your business until your business starts funding itself. So, it is reasonable that you are going to be discriminatory about the ways in which you spend money when it comes to your business. You want to make sure it will pay off.
However, despite our best efforts, there will be activities that we participate in that may not serve our interests. Whether it is a networking experience or a business seminar, there are always going to be things that we only realize after attending, that this was not beneficial for us. It is called trial and error. Sometimes you have to charge it to the game. It can’t always be a win in business. Part of being in business is you are going to experience some disappointments and failures. You are going to spend money you don’t have to participate in events that you are interested in. Hopefully, you have enough bad experiences to know exactly the way you should go. Every disappointment comes with a lesson and these lessons are vital for the kind of direction you need to go in your business. You are a perpetual student when you are a small business owner. You should always be investing in ongoing education on how to conduct your business and information as it pertains to your industry. If you stop learning, your business will stop growing. If you stop going to networking events, you won’t make any new connections for your business. Social media should not be the only way you connect. Your social media is just a tool to obtain more leads but should be one of many tools you use as a business owner. If you become overly dependent on social media for all your business needs, you will be very disappointed. We are committed to help new entrepreneurs like us develop professionally. We have an event on June 22nd that we have created to further the interests of new entrepreneurs who value connections and education. It is our Mentor Matchmaking Event. It is an opportunity not only to network but to meet connections that can teach you about your respective industry. Our curated panel of Mentors will meet with you one on one so that you can vet them and decide if you want to move forward with the Mentoring relationship. We are excited to bring this event to you and hope this will be one for the books! See you soon!!! |
